Of Poseidon by Anna Banks - Book Review

Title: Of Poseidon
Author: Anna Banks
Publication: May 22, 2012
Series: The Syrena Legacy
Format: Ebook
My Rating: ♥♥♥

Summary:

Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he's heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma's gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom...

Told from both Emma and Galen's points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.

Review:

I thought this book was going to go a whole different way than it did. I liked how it started, I did find Emma a little immature in the beginning but I did like her, I know she has a temper but damn that was a little too much. I did enjoy the book though, the romance was good and I liked a lot of the conversations but I found it pretty predictable. I got really confused with the mythology and sciency stuff. I mean it was hard to see where it was going. I loved the ending though, I would read book 2 to see where that continues.

-Emma
I can't say I loved Emma's character. She had her moments but I found her annoying after awhile. I loved that she was unique, and I love them having violet eyes. She was independent and was pretty cool, I just didn't like her temper all that much. She exploded on everything! Her gift is cool though, I wish I could communicate with the aquatic animals like she can.

- Galen
I loved Galen. I did like him and Emma together but I hated how long it took for them to happen. Galen was amazing from the beginning, he did seem a little too possessive to me, it can be cute but it was a little creepy after a while. I did love that was rather caring.

- Rayna
I had an itchy feeling about her in the beginning but I ended up really loving her character. I did like her character a lot more than Emma's but that's because I was expecting that rude attitude from her and I liked seeing her soft sides but I was expecting Emma to be like opposite from her so we could have the girl-who-doesn't-care-about-anything and the girl-who-is-sweet-and-loves-life-and-Galen but I just didn't like having Emma have a temper issue.

Overall, I did enjoy the book and I will be continuing the second book. It just wasn't what I expecting. I did like a lot of scenes and I'm curious to see how the next book plays out. Don't get me wrong, it was a unique story and I did like it but I didn't love it like I hoped I would. I am still a little confused on some of the science and stuff that happened, I mean it was all just sort of dumped on you so I hope that gets cleared up.
